Translational Research
Transforming Human Brain Tissue into Discovery
Our translational research program places the human brain at the center of scientific discovery. Leveraging the Mount Sinai Neuropathology Brain Bank, international research collaborations, and richly characterized collections of human tissue, we investigate the anatomical, cellular, and molecular signatures of Alzheimer's disease, PART, PSP, chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), and related disorders. We combine quantitative neuropathology, advanced tissue imaging, digital pathology, and artificial intelligence to investigate disease heterogeneity, identify new biomarkers, and uncover patterns of selective vulnerability that are difficult to detect using conventional approaches. Through large-scale computational initiatives, including the development of AI foundation models for neuropathology, we seek to redefine how human brain tissue is studied, transforming decades of accumulated pathological material into a powerful resource for biological discovery and therapeutic innovation.
